Summer is almost here, and the SKLNSMOTKEY team is excited to announce our most extensive German tour yet! From June through September, our monkey performers will be delighting audiences in cities across the country with our brand new show, "Jungle Explorers." This blog post will give you all the details about our upcoming tour, including locations, show highlights, and some behind-the-scenes insights into what it takes to travel with our primate performers.

Our 2023 Summer Show: "Jungle Explorers"

This year's show takes audiences on an imaginary expedition through the world's most fascinating rainforests. Led by our team of trained monkey "explorers," the performance combines entertainment with education about primate habitats, behaviors, and conservation efforts.

The show features:

  • Interactive storytelling with our monkey performers taking on different "explorer" roles
  • Amazing displays of natural monkey behaviors and intelligence
  • Educational segments about rainforest conservation
  • Comedy routines that will delight audience members of all ages
  • A grand finale featuring all our performers working together to "save the rainforest"

At 60 minutes in length, this is our most ambitious production yet, and we've been rehearsing for months to ensure a flawless performance at every venue.

Life on the Road with Monkey Performers

Many people wonder what it's like to tour with monkeys. The truth is, it requires meticulous planning and a steadfast commitment to animal welfare. Here's a glimpse into our touring life:

Specialized Transportation

Our monkeys travel in a custom-designed vehicle that maintains consistent temperature and humidity levels. The vehicle features spacious, comfortable enclosures that allow our animals to move around freely. During longer journeys, we make regular stops to check on our performers and provide enrichment activities.

Maintaining Routines

Monkeys thrive on routine, so we work hard to maintain consistency even while traveling. Daily feeding schedules, social time, training sessions, and rest periods remain as consistent as possible regardless of our location. Each venue has a dedicated "green room" that is set up identically at each stop to provide familiar surroundings.

Animal Welfare Checks

Our veterinarian, Anna, conducts daily health checks for each animal. We monitor stress indicators, appetite, behavior, and physical condition. If any animal shows signs of stress or fatigue, they are immediately given a break from performing.

Local Sourcing

Our monkeys enjoy a varied diet of fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, and specialized primate feed. We establish relationships with local suppliers in each city to ensure we always have fresh, high-quality food available.

Behind-the-Scenes Challenges

Touring with animal performers presents unique challenges that most traveling shows don't face:

  • Weather Considerations: Outdoor venues require contingency plans for weather changes, as our monkeys' comfort and safety are paramount.
  • Local Regulations: Each city has different regulations regarding animal performances that we must navigate.
  • Performance Adaptations: We sometimes need to adapt our show to suit different venue layouts while ensuring our animals are comfortable with any changes.
  • Balance of Rest and Performance: We carefully schedule rest days between performance blocks to ensure our animal performers have adequate recovery time.
Setting up at a new venue

Educational Outreach During the Tour

Beyond our main performances, we're committed to educational outreach in each city we visit. This year, we're offering:

  • School Workshops: Special morning sessions for school groups with a focus on primate conservation
  • Meet the Trainer Sessions: Post-show opportunities to learn about our training methods and animal care
  • Conservation Partnerships: Collaborations with local zoos and conservation organizations in each city
  • Educational Materials: Free educational booklets for all children attending our shows

A portion of all ticket sales from our summer tour will be donated to the Primate Conservation Foundation, supporting habitat preservation projects in Southeast Asia and South America.
